The Seed Sowers Grant is Here!
Let me begin by offering my sincere gratitude to all of you who have opted to round up for the Seed Sowers at the registers. Because of your continuing generosity, we’ve already raised over $12,000 for our Co-op’s Cooperative Community Fund.
The Moscow Food Co-op is one of 40 food co-ops nationally that participate in the Cooperative Community Fund program. This fund has over $3.5million in total assets that are all invested ONLY in the development of cooperatives.
Our investment earned just over $348.00 in interest in 2016 and we now get to put that money back into our community through our Seed Sowers Grant program. Any community group or organization with a federal tax ID # with a project in one of the following categories may apply for a grant.
1. Environment – environmental projects, recycling, alternative transportation, etc.
2. Community – healthcare, social services, service groups, community groups, etc.
3. Farming & Hunger – alternative agriculture, organic farming, food banks, etc.
4. Cooperatives – co-op organizations, co-op development, co-op education, co-op projects, etc.
The Co-op’s Community Contributions Committee will make all funding decisions. Applications are available on the Co-op’s website at moscowfood.coop/seedsowersgrantapp and are due by October 31st, 2017.
Every penny rounded up at the register contributes to the interest we earn and can give back to our community each year.

Dime In Time Program
Dime in Time is a community program of the Moscow Food Co-op. Customers are given a 10-cent refund every time they bring in a reusable tote bag or drink cup. Cashiers will ask these customers if they would like to keep their refund or donate it to Dime in Time. A committee made up Co-op staff, and Co-op participating owners (community members) choose one recipient for each month on a quarterly basis.
Award recipients will, in turn, write an article for the Co-op’s use and setup an informational table twice during the month they are chosen, telling about the organization and their plans for how they will use the funds. This Co-op Program is to benefit, non-profit, non-sectarian and non-discriminatory organizations whose goals complement or support the Mission Statement of the Co-op.
Bring in reusable grocery bags when you shop at the Co-op, and you get 10 cents, which can be applied to your purchase or donated to the charity below.
The Moscow Food Co-op is pleased to be able to offer modest donations to a variety of community non-profit organizations. Most of our support is provided in the form of small Co-op gift cards, which may be used as door prizes, to purchase or special order food for an event or as silent auction items. Depending on the nature of the request, in-kind donations may be possible.
Our Community Contributions budget is limited, so we advise you to apply in writing, a minimum of six weeks in advance of the date by which you need the donation. We will not consider donation requests made over the phone or in person - and if a request is made less than 20 business days in advance of the date by which you need the donation, we may not be able to accommodate that request. The best way to make your request is to drop off a filled-out form at the Customer Service Desk, care of the Education and Events Coordinator - or to email the completed form to firstname.lastname@example.org
The Community Contributions committee which is made up of community members meet by the second Monday of each month to award for upcoming months. The sooner you can get your request in, the more time the committee has to include you in their deliberations.
The Co-op Community Contributions program is to benefit local, non-sectarian, non-profit and non-discriminatory organizations. Preference will be given to organizations whose goals address food security issues or align with the current Ends of the Co-op which are: supporting and building demand for the food and goods economy; increase accessibility for the wider community through addressing barriers of exclusivity; grow and expand to further our mission; model environmental sustainability through our activities, facilities, products and services; educate and engage our owners, customers and the wider community about food, food systems, and more; and create a rewarding work environment for our staff and excellent service for our owners and customers.
