The first weekend in December the Board of Directors plus the General Manager found themselves at Field Springs State Park for our winter retreat. We arrived in the cold and dark but walked into a warm and cozy cabin, there is something about a fire place that makes any room feel cozy. With a blanket of snow on the ground we huddled around that fire the rest of the weekend ready to work. This year we were joined by Jessica Bearman a seasoned and talented facilitator. Working with Jessica is always refreshing; she keeps us on track and reminds us when we have “fallen down the rabbit hole”. With a packed agenda she was able to steer the BOD in a constructive direction and for that we are grateful! |

We are beginning the new cycle of Co-op board elections. The process starts with the elections committee of the Co-op board of directors looking over last year’s notes and elections report so that we can continue to learn and grow from our past experiences. We look at the application, timeline, and process, and then decide to make changes if necessary. If those changes are major and require bylaw or policy changes, we work with that committee and bring potential changes to the board for a vote. |

At November’s Breakfast with the Board, the Co-op Board of Directors asked member and patrons what grocery products they purchase outside of the Co-op. The Board received much feedback and varied in types of products members and customers buy at other stores. One common product type mentioned was cleaning and paper products. These included anything from bleach and multi-purpose cleaners to toilet paper and napkins. Also, some customers only purchase specialty foods in the Co-op they need due to food allergies and dietary choices, such as gluten and vegan products. Here are some other items mentioned by commenters: Milk, Tillamook cheese, powdered sugar, bagels, meat, nonorganic products, produce, toilet paper without a cardboard core, coffee, canned foods, beer, kitty litter, cabot cheese, halloween candy The Board of Directors would like to thank everyone for their generous feedback and welcomes members and patrons to the next Breakfast with the Board on Saturday, December 17th at 11a.m. in the Co-op Deli. |

So many changes in such a short time. As many of you know Bill Beck resigned from the board. Colette Dephelps will finish out his term until elections in spring 2012. Colette brings many strengths to the board and is always providing thoughtful questions and suggestions. Once again we have seven board members who bring widely varying perspectives. We are all relieved that the GM search is complete and our initial work to communicate our expectations to Seth are slowing down so that our committees can return to normal business. |

At the October Breakfast with the Board, the Co-op Board of Directors asked members and patrons of the store how they felt about parking space in the Co-op. This topic received a lot of feedback and most was quite positive. In general, people thought the Co-op parking was just fine and there was definitely no need to increase. However, the second most common comment was they felt the layout was a little cramped and many drivers go to fast when going through the parking lot to find a space. Here are some of the comments we received: -“No problem, definitely don’t increase the parking!” - “I don’t like driving in to the parking lot because there is too much going on” |
