With the rise of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) - particularly soy, corn, and tomatoes - here's how to know what you're really getting in the produce aisle: Start by looking at the PLU code. GMO fruit PLU codes have numbers that begin with the number 8, whereas organically grown fruit PLUs have five numbers beginning with 9. In the waning days of December 2010, I took a trip to Ephrata, Washington, home of Pure Country Pork. I have been looking for a nearby farm to supply us with naturally raised pork. After my visit to that farm, I am pleased to report that I was very impressed and that we will be able to offer a wide variety of the highest quality pork products supplied by this exceptional farm family. To visit Pure Country Pork, I called Paul and Karrie and planned a trip for the 27th of December. |

No smoke-filled rooms or clandestine imbedded ear-marks were involved in the negotiations we held with both The Sage Baking Company and Panhandle Artisan Breads over the summer months. What we arrived at is fresh-baked artisan breads for our customers five days a week. Hooray!!!! |

Cold, warm, or mulled. By the glass or right out of the jug. These are the ways I delight in the flavor of Wilson Banner Ranch’s Apple Cider. For the nearly six years that I’ve lived on the Palouse, I’ve celebrated fall with their tasty beverage. It’s now a Johna tradition. On a cool, crisp afternoon I interviewed Keri Wilson, who oversees sales, marketing, and educational events for the farm and is also the daughter of the farm’s owners, Joe and Annetta Wilson, at their farm west of Clarkston. |
