Thank-you to the Moscow Food Co-op and Dime in Time donors for support. On March 12, 2015, the Moscow Affordable Housing Trust hosted a free public meeting, Celebration of Home Ownership, at the 1912 Center for families interested in owning a home.
In February of this year, the Moscow Affordable Housing Trust (MAHT) was awarded $350,000 by the Idaho Housing and Finance Association (IHFA). The funds allow MAHT to create affordable housing in Moscow by acquiring and rehabilitating two single family homes.
MAHT will find and then purchase a suitable property, contractors will make improvements required by the IHFA to ensure the house is ready for move-in. When complete, it will be sold to a qualified household earning between about $30,000 and $48,000 per year. To be affordable, the house needs to sell for about $150,000.
Home ownership is a dream of many people, but in Moscow it can be challenging. Its a goal with many advantages. For families, owning a home can stabilize the cost of housing and serve as a way to save some of the money that is just lost when paying rent. Owners feel satisfaction and pride in their home and they reflect this in their neighborhood, making the City a more attractive place. Employers also benefit in their ability to attract and retain employees.
Participants at the Celebration used this roadmap to find resources and choose their next step toward ownership. The path uses You can do the same thing by visiting the MAHT website (MoscowHousingTrust.org) and using the worksheet.
The Celebration of Home Ownership was sponsored by the Moscow Food Co-op, Team Idaho Real Estate, Latah County Community Foundation, Appearances Marketing & Promotions and Platinum Home Mortgage - Andrea
