Candidate Statement:
April Hernandez

The personal skills and experience that I bring to the Moscow Food Co-op board and that will make me an effective member include current nonprofit board and managerial experience, and employment under a board as executive director. Working for a library, we have many of the same values as the Co-op, namely, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, and equity. I feel because of this I would make a good board member and appreciate the opportunity to work within another organization that is closely value aligned.

Another way that the Co-op and the library are aligned is the importance placed on partnerships. We are all stronger together.

In my position as the director of the library district, my leadership style leans toward group decision-making and shared power. We have a managerial team that makes professional decisions but we always make them with feedback from those that the decisions affect. This structure allows me to delegate decisions to members of management in their areas of expertise. I also work with a board as my employer and we work as a group to make policy changes, strategic plans, and other items to move the library forward.
